Lots of plains have been flying over head while I was on the river the last couple days. I tried to snap a few pictures but they turned out to be more of pictures of clouds. The noise they made was weird it didnt sound or feel that loud but it left a small ripple on the river.
I am going to blain the Rockford Air Show for why I don’t have any good fish pictures to share from the weekend.

Even when the fish are taking a break from biting I love being on the water enjoying the peace and beauty. Its hard to capture the true view that can be experianced on the water but I figured I would give it a shot. This is the water and sky reflection taken from the shallow side of the pit.

I snagged this carp in the pit casting the pit I wish these garbage fish would find somwhere else to be. I dont like them being in my casting area.

I rigged up a 3 way to fish for whitebass in the pit. After a couple casts this Norther Pike snapped up both my twisters and the fight was on. I landed him with one twister on each side of his mouth.

This was one of the weirdest catches I have ever experianced myself on a casting rod. This soft shelled turtle actually bit my cut bait and swallowed the hook. It also put up a fight like a fish does. I don’t know much about this type of turtle but I dont believe they are very common I have seen small ones once in awhile when walking the shoreline but this one was special. It was in my opinion Huge. I know certain turtles can grow to really large sizes but it seams rare to ever find them outside a Zoo.

I reinstalled the boats trolling motor. It wasn’t on when I bought the boat but its totally a must have for the way I fish for Walleye and White Bass. I dont like that its white but its really useful. Doug and Jason have both practiced with it and it does take some time to get used to the pedel. I think it will be perfect for being able to cover the whole pit or any calm flat water. I love the idea of being able to troll with one short stable line and jig with my other rod. I have else been thinking about using it to survey the debth of the pit and chart it. It would be really nice to learn the contour and bottom structure so I could better target the places where fish will naturally hover around.

I took the boat out last night. Caught a couple small cats and a sucker. I wasnt out long because my motor was acting up and I didnt want to try and head to the dock in the dark with a screwed up motor. I am still unsure whats wrong with the motor it is way underpowered when I open it up. I am just guessing it must have somthing to do with the lower end or the carb. Today I am going to drain the oil in the lower end and verify that there isnt much water in there. I don’t know enough about boat motors to really diagnose whats causing the problem. I wont let that keep me from fishing too long I will either fix my motor buy a different one and in the process of that I am forced to fish from shore. Early in the fishing season when the water level was too high for boating I had alot of luck from shore so I don’t think it will be to much of a problem for me to still catch good fish. Just kinda sad I really enjoy the ability to try lots of different spots.

This was the first of the nice bigger cats I have caught this year on chicken liver. I havent totally given up on chicken liver but it is a lot of trouble keeping it on the hook long enough to get a fish interested.
I wouldnt mind getting some suggestions to how you keep it hooked.
