The kids clean boat

I was lucky enough to have a little helper that cleaned my windows and some of the canipy. Austin was very excited to be able to climb in the boat and clean. It was fun to show him how to spray the windex and wipe it off without leaving streaks. Taylor did good with vaccuming all the carpet and under the seats in the front.

New Boat

I got a new boat Thursday. I havent been posting often enough here because I have been busy trying to figure everything out. I have had it in the water a few times already trying to learn how to handle it. Its a lot more boat then I have been used to but its fun trying to learn. I think I have just about gotten used to adjusting the trim so that the bow doesn’t get too high in the air. I till have been having trouble getting it anchored using 2 20lb anchors it still wont stay in one place. That makes it really hard to do any fishing. I am thinking I will install a heavier anchor and an electric winch for it. I am also having trouble getting the bumpers tied up so that I would be able to land it myself instead of one of my “Deck Hands” needing to push off.

Flat Head Broken Motor

I have been having a pretty rough time with my motor but in the process of making adjustments to it I casted out a worm and caught several smaller flatheads. These cats can grow pretty big so its exciting to get them to bite at all.

Motor Problem – Few Fish

I took the boat out last night. Caught a couple small cats and a sucker. I wasnt out long because my motor was acting up and I didnt want to try and head to the dock in the dark with a screwed up motor. I am still unsure whats wrong with the motor it is way underpowered when I open it up. I am just guessing it must have somthing to do with the lower end or the carb. Today I am going to drain the oil in the lower end and verify that there isnt much water in there. I don’t know enough about boat motors to really diagnose whats causing the problem. I wont let that keep me from fishing too long I will either fix my motor buy a different one and in the process of that I am forced to fish from shore. Early in the fishing season when the water level was too high for boating I had alot of luck from shore so I don’t think it will be to much of a problem for me to still catch good fish. Just kinda sad I really enjoy the ability to try lots of different spots.

First nice cat on Liver

This was the first of the nice bigger cats I have caught this year on chicken liver. I havent totally given up on chicken liver but it is a lot of trouble keeping it on the hook long enough to get a fish interested.

I wouldnt mind getting some suggestions to how you keep it hooked.

Bigger Catfish – Strong Current

Its hard to take a good picture in the dark with this camera on my phone. The bigger catfish have been biting the last few days. Its pretty weird trying to net one of these in the river with the strong current.

Itsy Bitsy Catfish

Doug caught this Itsy Bitsy catfish last night. We went out with some worms and chicken liver. We did catch a few small catfish on the liver and doug had one on that broke his line. But we actually had more bites and little catfish and suckers on the worm. I am thinking that with liver its more likely to catch larger cats and with worm you can catch big and small ones. I will try both worms and liver next time out and see if I can bring in one of the big cats.

Cat Eats Eating Chub Chum

Got lucky enough to catch this channel cat on a chub that I stepped on. Worked really good but I think its only worth trying for a couple minutes. It seams like if I don’t catch one right after casting that no matter how long I let it soak the cats just aren’t interested. So i have decided that chubs do work for catching cats but for the trouble i still prefer good old night crawlers. I do plan to test some chicken liver later this week.

Bullhead Eats Big Chub

Well it turned out that the big chubs worked. I caught this Bullhead Can’t believe it hit the chub pretty unexpected for a fish with a little mouth to be interested in Eating A Big Chub. But it sure did.

Serious Minnows

I am out here in the boat floating on the boat. Not catching too much that is why I am posting here. I thought these huge minnows would help me find a large catfish but nothing yet. But i know very well it only takes 1 big cat to make the whole time fishing trip one 2 remember. Going to do some fireworks at Mel and Jason’s house tonight at around 8:30. I think the kids will really get a kick out of it. I have some pretty good stuff prepared. Hopefully before that time comes i can pull out a couple good sized fish for later posting on here.
